Weekends

Weekends are not good for us. Some friends “disappear”.  Doctors are not available.  People rest.  We don’t need to rest.  We rest enough every day, anyway.  More than we’d like.  People wish us a good weekend.  What plans do you have?  No mail on Sunday.  What am I expecting, anyway?

Weekends are good for us.
Many friends who are busy during the week are available.  Some come and bring us food.  Others call.  Especially our daughters.  We can sleep late and not feel guilty, even though it’s the same on weekdays, but not every day.  There is less traffic in the street.  No garbage or recycling collection trucks.  No school buses.  No crazy speeders who think our street is a race track, even with the speed bumps!

We are lucky.  We do not care if it is sunny or stormy. We don’t have to go anywhere!

About martisima

After over 50 years of teaching literature to undergraduate and graduate students, I feel I have earned my retirement (it happened when I was 72, five years ago). I do miss the classroom, however, but not the meetings and all other requirements of the profession. I love teaching, and wish I could still do it. But now I read for pleasure, and watch films, and listen to all kinds of music (no TV, though). I love to travel, and hope I can resume doing it soon. I need to get over my health issues caused by thyroid surgery three years ago!
