This afternoon Guido drove me to get another blood test. As the nurse was struggling, as usual, to find my vein, Dr. Pennington popped in. He excused himself for having made the mistake of not sending the request for this particular test. He knows that Dr. Hedaya cannot do anything about my thyroid medication without it. He also added that it had been his mistake, and his alone.
When he left, the nurse told me that Dr. P is very decent because he put the blame on himself, when that was not the case. Neither of us said anything else, but I was greatly relieved that we had not complained. It seems we are all trying to protect her. She deserves it. We are none of us infallible. Still, every time I need a blood test in the future I’ll ask to see the request form and make sure that everything is there. We learn from mistakes, isn’t that the case?
The results should be back next week. I’ll wait until Wednesday, when I have an appointment with Hedaya. This is better than speaking over the phone. It’s good that we made the appointment last month because he is going on vacation on Friday. I need him to do something for me to feel better before he leaves.
To be continued…
