A major storm has caused widespread power outages.

We were VERY lucky.  A major storm hit this area yesterday. Strangely enough, we only lost power for a few seconds when the storm hit. About 187,000 Pepco customers in Montgomery County remain without power. Damages here were only to a huge branch of an old tree that fell on our front lawn.

Guido needed to see the doctor because his ear hurts, but the office, in a complex of five medical buildings, is closed because of power failure. Supermarkets have limited goods, and most public offices are closed, as well as banks.

We do have a guardian angel!

About martisima

After over 50 years of teaching literature to undergraduate and graduate students, I feel I have earned my retirement (it happened when I was 72, five years ago). I do miss the classroom, however, but not the meetings and all other requirements of the profession. I love teaching, and wish I could still do it. But now I read for pleasure, and watch films, and listen to all kinds of music (no TV, though). I love to travel, and hope I can resume doing it soon. I need to get over my health issues caused by thyroid surgery three years ago!

Tell Guido to put a warm compress on that ear until he gets to the doctor – you’re absolutely right,,we both have Guardian Angels watching over us – but your area may have actually had it worse than we did,,,this time. I’m glad you both made it through this.

      Thanks, Anna! I did.

I can’t believe how lucky we are, because in the past the slightest breeze would be the cause of a power failure. We have been without power for days, and I thought it would happen yesterday too. It didn’t. I called the grocery store before going and they told me they were open but their selves were nearly empty and there was no refrigerated anything… We’ll see what tomorrow brings.
