Me and My Operas…

Since I am mostly bed bound, I have been doing lots of reading (thank you, Kindle – “real” books are too heavy for my poor weak hands). I have also been listening to music – all kinds, but did something different which can only be done if you have the time. I have a “squeeze box” and it allows me to listen to music in bed. I have always loved operas, and now, with all the time in the world, I am listening to them while following the libretto.

Here is an aria of one of my favorites, and now that I know exactly what they are saying, it means much, much more.

I am posting these in Facebook, and I’ll repost them here for those unfortunate ones who are not there 😉

About martisima

After over 50 years of teaching literature to undergraduate and graduate students, I feel I have earned my retirement (it happened when I was 72, five years ago). I do miss the classroom, however, but not the meetings and all other requirements of the profession. I love teaching, and wish I could still do it. But now I read for pleasure, and watch films, and listen to all kinds of music (no TV, though). I love to travel, and hope I can resume doing it soon. I need to get over my health issues caused by thyroid surgery three years ago!

Thanks for your new post, Martha! I enjoy operas, too, and always include at least one in my design-it-yourself series at the Center for the Arts. This season it’s Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus in early December, and I’m looking forward to it very much. Love and hugs, Esther
