Such a Senseless, Devastating Crime. It Seems Almost Too Much to Comprehend…

I have seldom seen so many heartfelt expressions of pain, sympathy, love. outrage, as there were today in Facebook.  Here are a few, and this will help me to preserve them and refer to them often.  We should not forget!

Such a senseless, devastating crime.
What Valerie writes is great!

The school shooting is tragic. What I find even more tragic is the number of shootings that happen every day in this country. Every single day, innocent people are killed by guns. Turn on the news every day and you will hear “there was a shooting in Oakland”. Why aren’t we all up in arms about these? Because they happen one or two at a time. And the victims aren’t always cute innocent kids. They are gang members or criminals, but also cute innocent kids. At some point they were ALL cute innocent kids. Time to get rid of the easy access to guns. And then let’s give these kids something to do before they turn into gang members.
This is one of the hardest posts I could ever think of .. These were the men who had to see those children who were killed early this morning in Newtown, CT .. And had to notify all the parents along with school officials their innocent children were dead .. My thoughts & prayers go out to every person who is effected by one of the worst tragedies in American history .. May God Bless them all ..

Rafael Olivas, my son-in-law, shared a link via Pulse:  Will this country ever have an honest debate about guns? Will we ever acknowledge that easy access to cheap guns enables tragic outcomes? Will the gun-denying 2nd-ammendment-waving fools never be challenged?

And we end it with this –  Stew for Thought…How does one small community possibly begin to handle the crushing heartache that now comes with having to face the burial of 20 children? It seems almost too much to comprehend.

About martisima

After over 50 years of teaching literature to undergraduate and graduate students, I feel I have earned my retirement (it happened when I was 72, five years ago). I do miss the classroom, however, but not the meetings and all other requirements of the profession. I love teaching, and wish I could still do it. But now I read for pleasure, and watch films, and listen to all kinds of music (no TV, though). I love to travel, and hope I can resume doing it soon. I need to get over my health issues caused by thyroid surgery three years ago!

This shooting somehow seems to much to bear – as Valeria says they were all innocent children once but these still were and their lives were taken – can’t imagine what their last thoughts were and how frightened they must have been. And I will say something I’ve only said to myself why the hell did his mother own three guns when she knew her son had mental problems? You can’t even imagine how furious about that!
